Welcome to all students, parents and community
As we embark on the 2020-2021 school year, I am reminded of a quote from Chinese philosopher Laozio which says “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. For our students, each year is a journey through educational, athletic and life pursuits. For our grade 9’s new to ACHS, we welcome you and look forward to watching you grow and take your first steps in the world of secondary education. For our grade 10 and 11 students, the steps are familiar and becoming more routine in the path to the final prize. Lastly, our grade 12’s embark on their last few steps towards graduation and moving on to new and bigger journeys. No matter where you are in your journey, I hope that 2018/2019 is a great year for all your many pursuits.
Educationally, students are required to attain a higher level of literacy than ever before. The focus on reading comprehension and fluency have become the focus of not only our school but of the whole of education in Saskatchewan. Having students leave high school with a sound background in reading is a goal I believe all schools should take on and each and every student should strive for. Reading is not just about English class, but about literacy in all subject areas, be it Mathematics or Mechanics.
Athletically, the opportunities for competition and striving to be the best you can be have never been greater. I invite all students to find a way to be active on a daily basis as through a healthy lifestyle comes an active and creative mind. I also encourage students to become part of an organization to further their leadership or “people “skills. These skills will be invaluable in future endeavors be it in the world of work or post-secondary education.
In closing, enjoy your year at ACHS. Your staff is looking forward to working with you to achieve your full potential. Your coaches are looking forward to seeing you improve and grow as a player. Finally, your community is looking forward to seeing you doing great things now and in the future.
All the best
