- Education Week begins in Saskatchewan. This year’s very appropriate theme is “Connecting and Learning in New Ways”. We to celebrate education throughout the week.
- To kick off Education Week, we will be hosting a Bus Driver Appreciation Breakfast to thank those four lovely ladies who get their precious cargo safely to and from school every day. We encourage all bus families to take the time to let their drivers know how appreciated they are, and how vital they are at keeping this whole show rolling!
Tuesday, November 24
- It’s International Candy Day! I’m sure our SLC has something up their sleeve to help us celebrate.
- Day 2 of Education Week is D.E.A.R Day. Throughout the day, we will all get a chance to Drop Everything And Read!
Thursday, November 26
- Today’s Education Week activities include a 4H presentation courtesy of Kennedy MacNeil and a MADD Virtual Presentation for our Grade 7-12 students.
- It’s Kindergarten Hot Dog Lunch courtesy of our wonderful School Community Council members.
Friday, November 27
- It’s Hot Dog Lunch Day for any Grade 1 – 12 students and staff who remembered to order. Thanks again to our SCC for organizing, preparing and delivering lunch for us.
Other Items of Interest:
- We would like to remind parents that it is very important students to come to school with a fresh, clean mask every day. If you are unable to provide enough masks for your child(ren) between laundering, please let us know so we can help to come up with a solution.
- Our Avonlea School Handbook has now been finalized, printed and sent home with students today. We would like to remind parents that the information in the handbook pertains to a non-Covid year, therefore, many item in the handbook are not applicable this year. This is a living document, with changes being made as necessary. The printed copy is just a snapshot as of this day – any changes will be made on the electronic copy which will always be available on our website. schools.prairiesouth.ca/avonlea/
- Student Led Conferences will be held virtually on November 30 – December 2. All families who returned their survey requesting a conference will be sent an separate email containing the link to the program as well as all details pertaining to the conference format.
- In the spirit of “Connecting and Learning in New Ways”, we will be hosting a Virtual Creativity Fair! Students are encouraged to show us their creativity by entering in any or all of the 10 categories.
- All Grade 1 – 12 Progress Reports have now been posted to My School Sask. We encourage all parents to log on to ensure their child(ren)’s information is viewable. We have heard from several parents who, for various reasons, cannot log on to their account. Please do not hesitate to contact me – I would be more than happy to help you out.
- Do you have a child who could benefit from private tutoring? We were very happy to hear from a retired teacher who is willing to provide tutoring for students. If you are interested, please check this Tutoring opportunity
- We have several families who have not yet ordered a copy of the 2019-2020 Avonlea School Yearbook. To ensure we haven’t missed anyone, we will be resending order forms home to those families who have not ordered.
- Our Student Leadership Committee is busy working on school clothing orders. Watch for order forms coming home shortly.
