What is the SCC?
What is the SCC?
“School Community Councils (SCCs) are in place at every school* in Prairie South School Division. SCCs provide an opportunity for parents and community members to play a meaningful role in supporting the learning that takes place at their local school.” (Quoted from the Prairie South School Division Website)
*Note: Hutterian Schools and Associate Schools have their own form of governance and do not have SCCs.
Here is a glimpse of some of the projects we are working on this school year:
Determining interest in an alternate school calendar by contacting parents and voting
Developing a parent representative program for each classroom to enhance communication and community
Fundraising through hot lunches, the Fall Dinner, and the Epicure fundraiser
Assisting in LIT and LIP goals by hosting events such as Literacy Family Fun Night, creating a writing activity for February break, and helping with the Random Acts of Kindness Day
Developing a plan for a second gaga ball pit and providing rubber paving for the surface of the pits
Facilitating a proper hand-washing clinic with Public Health
Communicating on behalf of CES to the community
Promoting positive attitudes towards events and education
What kind of commitment is expected?
We meet once a month in person, but often communicate weekly. Leading up to an event, we are often in communication daily. However, we have a great team and the work is divided nicely amongst everyone.
Are there any perks?
Working on the SCC gives you a better understanding of CES, how our school division works, and helps connect you to your children’s educational experience. You will also have a chance to get to know many parents, teachers, and staff members at CES.
Want to know more about what is happening at CES?
Come out to our AGM on April 6th at 4:00pm. There will be free babysitting for those who register with Carol Eby by Thursday, April 2nd.
