On November 16th, READ Saskatoon joined us in a ‘Journey across Saskatchewan’. READ set the gym up into interactive stations for families to participate in. One of the favorite stations was the Animated Alphabet, where families ‘vacuumed in Voloda, or stomped like an elephant in Eyebrow.’ Thank you to the volunteers that came, and also a huge thanks to all the parents that joined us. This was a fantastic way to show that incorporating reading in your family’s lives does not need to be just sitting and reading a book.
Watch for details in the New Year about another event put on by READ Saskatoon.
Reading Tips:
Encourage a wide variety of reading activities.
Make reading an important part of your children’s lives. Have them: read menus, roadside signs, game directions, weather reports, movie time listings, and other practical everyday information.
Also, make sure they always have something to read in their spare time when they could be waiting for appointments or riding in a car. Magazines are a great for this. There are all types of magazines for any interest (a magazine subscription makes a perfect Christmas or birthday gift).
