Football Fall Camp Begins on Thursday, August 24th at 1:00 p.m.

Peacock Tornado Football Players:

Fall camp begins on Thursday, August 24th with registration and equipment at 1:00 p.m. in the gym. We will test your bench press, 30 yard sprint time and 1 mile timed fitness run at 1:30 p.m. Equipment (practice pants, thigh pads, knee pads, girdle and pads) will be issued after athletic testing. We will start full practices on Friday, August 25th at 3:35 p.m. We need seven solid practices before our controlled scrimmages on Saturday, September 1st which is tentatively scheduled to be the Tommy Douglas Jamboree in Saskatoon. With funds being tighter from the school division the Moose Jaw High School Athletic Association has continued to charge the participation fee of $25.00.

To help offset costs we will be again selling Tornado Football ‘Gold Card’ discount coupon cards which give buyers instant payback and major discounts at local businesses. Players will be required to sell 20 cards and are $20.00 each. Line up sales with neighbors and relatives now to sell cards to them in August. We will be getting the cards after practice on Thursday, August 24th and will finish with a team selling blitz on our bye week, Saturday, September 23rd at 12:00 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. with a team BBQ to follow.

The cost to play football at Peacock Collegiate this season is currently set at $265.00. This fee is dependent on the budget which will not be declared until late May – I will provide an updated letter in June to all players with a finalized schedule and fee structure. I will do everything I can to keep our fees at $265.00. In polling the players from last season you preferred to have all fees included at one time.

$25.00             MJHSAA Registration Fee

$30.00             Team T-shirt, Mouth Guard and Belt (Yours to keep)

$10.00             Peacock Uniform Replacement Fee

$70.00             Uniform (Game Socks, Practice Jerseys, Decals) and Equipment (Collars, Chin Straps, Field Equipment, Training Supplies)

$30.00             Referee Costs for Exhibition Games, Miscellaneous Costs (Practice Balls, Training Supplies, Team Emergencies, Cleaning/ Laundry Supplies, etc.)

$60.00             Team Suppers and Sub Sandwiches for Road Trips (Approximately 8 Team Meals and 2 Road Trip Lunches)

$20.00             Two charter bus trips to Swift Current and Estevan

$20.00             Team and Individual Player Picture

Team fees of $265.00 are due by Thursday, August 31st. Player fees must be paid by this date to be eligible for our first league game. A postdated cheque can be used. Please date postdated cheques for October 1, 2017. Seven season tickets at $7.00 each ($49.00) will be issued to each player. We encourage you and your family members, relatives, neighbours, friends, etc. to use these season tickets to attend our league games. You keep all money generated from selling your own season tickets. We feel that this fee is reasonable in comparison to Moose Jaw and Regina minor football that charge $185.00 – $250.00.

We will open up our season in Saskatoon again this year at the Tommy Douglas jamboree. We will play in three mini games. All players who have attended all practices leading up to the jamboree will have an opportunity to participate. As there is a short amount of practice time leading up to the jamboree, please ensure you are active over the summer and come into camp ready to play.

The Moose Jaw league schedule is attached. We will travel to Swift Current and Estevan this season for our league games. Our first league game will be Saturday September 9th vs. Central at 4:00 p.m.

The Tornado Grade 9 and10’s will play at home against Swift Current’s Grade 9 and 10’s on Wednesday, September 27th at 4:00 p.m in a controlled scrimmage (date tentative). The Tornado Grade 9 and10’s will also host our own jamboree on Saturday, September 16th at 1:00 p.m. at Gutheridge Field. Teams involved in the jamboree are Saskatoon Tommy Douglas, Prince Albert St. Mary’s, Prince Albert Carlton and Regina Campbell. The jamboree is a great opportunity to play four mini games against grade 9, 10 and other junior aged players.

The winner of the Moose Jaw league will travel to play the Regina league winner on Saturday, November 4h. The winner of that game will travel to play the winner of the Saskatoon league in the Provincial final on November 11th. With a lot of hard work we want to set our team up to challenge for the Provincial title.

Make sure you keep the game weekends and weekdays open. Arrange your work around football games and practices. “You have your whole life after high school to work, but you can only play high school football for four years.”

Have the Moose Jaw High School Athletic Association (yellow) form signed by your parents and yourself for Thursday, August 24th. MJHSAA forms will be provided at our June meeting. A medical is recommended but not mandatory to play high school football in the Moose Jaw league.

If you know of any new students to Peacock or other students that should be playing encourage them to try out. I hope you have a good and active summer. The coaches are looking forward to seeing you in shape and ready to play on August 24th.

Sincerely,

Coach Redstone

Peacock Tornadoes

There is a grade 9/10 jamboree on Saturday September 16th in Moose Jaw at 1:00. We will hold a practice on Sunday at 2.00 as the SHSAA gives us permission to do so with such a short break between games, then have our pre-game practice on Monday, September 18 after school. This is a rare situation with games scheduled so close together. With player safety in mind these practices will be kept in controlled contact.
