October 3 – 7

S.C.C. News

Avonlea School Families,

Over the last few months, we, the Avonlea School Community Council (SCC), have been working on a little project behind the scenes.  We have taken over school clothing!  In partnership with the school, we decided to rebrand and update the school clothing logo.  We worked closely with a local graphic designer and now have two options for students, staff, and families to choose from.

We are working with Spiritwear Canada.  Our school store will be open for September 26 until October 7!!  Once the store closes, it is closed.  All order and payments will be online.  Check out the clothing options and designs at the following website.  All clothing size charts are available on the site too!  www.spiritwearcanada.ca/avonlea_school/shop/home

To keep the store costs minimal, we are asking families to have the clothing shipped to the school.  We will send the clothing home with your child.  However, if the clothing is a gift item, please send an email to the school for items to be set aside for parent pick up.  Once we know the estimated date of delivery, the school will put it in the Peek of the Week.

If there is interest and this first sale is a success, we will be looking at a Spring store with a few additional items.

Thank you,

~   Your SCC

Thursday, October 6

  • Our Public Health Nurse will be here for Grade 6 and 8 immunizations.  Consent forms were sent home a few weeks ago, but we are still waiting for a few to be returned.  If you have a child in grade 6 or 8 and have not yet read, completed, and returned the consent form, please do so right away.

Friday,  October 7

  • No School

Other items of interest:

  • Lifetouch has been booked for our School Pictures on October 14.
  • Student Information Verification forms were mailed home a few weeks ago.  If you haven’t sent yours back yet, please do so as soon as possible.  If no changes are required, please indicate so on the form and have it returned.
  • Reminder – if you are planning to send your child on one of our buses as a guest rider, Prairie South School Division requires 24 hours notice for paperwork to be submitted. You are welcome to call the school to make these arrangements, but please do so well in advance to allow time for me to get the paperwork completed and submitted within the required time frame.  Bus drivers have been told they are not to accept any guest riders without authorization from Transportation.  Please do not put our drivers in the position of having to deny your child a ride.
  • Save those bottles and cans.  Our graduating class will be holding their annual bottle drive fundraiser in October. Watch for a poster in your mailbox once details have been finalized.
  • On Monday, October 3, the Friendly Neighbours is putting on a fundraiser and have asked us to help spread the word to our families.
    • They will be selling hamburgers, a drink, and a bag of popcorn for $6.00.
    • Students are welcome to walk down to the Friendly Neighbours;  however, as this is not a school activity, please remember that there will be no staff members accompanying children on the walk, and there will be no school supervision at the fundraiser.
    • This fundraiser is sponsored by the Moose Jaw Co-op.
  • Prairie South is offering a 12-week program for parents of children aged 5 to 12.  Details can be found on the attached Incredible Years poster.
  • The Prairie South School Division has developed an extensive list of outside agencies, services, programs, and resources that are available to all Prairie South families.  That information can be found using the following link: Outside Agencies and Community Programs document
  • A huge thank you to all the students, staff and families who helped, contributed to, and attended our Fall Fair yesterday. It was a great success! Special thanks to Ms. Diewold, Mrs. Struble, and Mrs. Crompton for organizing the event, and to the School Community Council members who organized, prepared, and served the meal.
  • Good luck to our Senior Girls who are hosting their home tournament this weekend.  Come on down and cheer them on!
