Recently we have had situations where medications have been brought to school without the
\nknowledge of staff. There are very clear guidelines and procedures from the Division that we must
\nfollow for safety reasons.<\/p>\n
As a school, we ask that all students and families follow these guidelines regarding medications at
\nschool. Please refer to the Prairie South School Division\u2019s Administrative Procedure for
\nAdministering Medications and Medical Treatment to Students at school.<\/p>\n

\nschool hours and is necessary for the student\u2019s health or well-being. For example, medication for
\nany diagnosis such as ADHD, inhaler for asthma, or an EpiPen for severe allergies.<\/p>\n
\nneeded for health situations like headaches, body aches, cold and flu symptoms, etc. Advil, cough
\nsyrup and cough candies are examples of self-administered medications.<\/p>\n
\nIf your child requires essential medication (physician-prescribed) to be administered during the
\nschool day, kindly follow the steps below:
\n1) Contact Mrs. Neufeld requesting to have the medication administered at school.
\n2) Request a medical form from the school office that is to be filled out by your family
\nphysician prior to medications being dropped off at school or administered by staff.
\n3) Return the completed medical form to the school along with the medication in a clearly
\nmarked container (preferably the container directly from the pharmacy). Please do not send
\nmedications with your child.
\n4) Bring in any refills that may be required. Please do not send refills with your child.
\n5) All medications and physician forms must be updated yearly. Please plan to send all
\nupdated information and medications prior to school starting each fall.
\n6) Inhalers may be kept in your child\u2019s backpack for quick access however we also ask that a
\nsecond inhaler be left at the school office as a backup.<\/p>\n
\nIf your child requires medication such as inhalers, pain relief medications (Advil, Tylenol, Midol),
\ncough syrup and\/or cough drops, or any other medications, kindly follow the steps below:
\n1) Ensure the medication is for 1 day only. Please do not send a bottle of Advil, Tylenol, etc.
\n2) Email your child\u2019s teacher and school principal to inform them your child will be bringing
\nmedication to school. Your child\u2019s teacher will store this medication in their desk for the day
\nor leave the medication at the office and will administer as needed.
\n3) Please reinforce with your child(ren) the importance of asking an adult for medication, not
\nfellow students.
\n4) Students offering medication to other students is strictly prohibited.<\/p>\n
