There are very clear guidelines and procedures from the Division that we must<br \/>\nfollow for safety reasons.<\/p>\n<p>As a school, we ask that all students and families follow these guidelines regarding medications at<br \/>\nschool. Please refer to the Prairie South School Division\u2019s Administrative Procedure for<br \/>\nAdministering Medications and Medical Treatment to Students at school.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Definitions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Essential Medications<\/strong> \u2013 a physician-prescribed medication that must be scheduled during regular<br \/>\nschool hours and is necessary for the student\u2019s health or well-being. For example, medication for<br \/>\nany diagnosis such as ADHD, inhaler for asthma, or an EpiPen for severe allergies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Self-administered Medications<\/strong> \u2013 medications that are not prescribed by a doctor but may be<br \/>\nneeded for health situations like headaches, body aches, cold and flu symptoms, etc. Advil, cough<br \/>\nsyrup and cough candies are examples of self-administered medications.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Essential Medication School Procedures:<\/strong><br \/>\nIf your child requires essential medication (physician-prescribed) to be administered during the<br \/>\nschool day, kindly follow the steps below:<br \/>\n1) Contact Mrs. Neufeld requesting to have the medication administered at school.<br \/>\n2) Request a medical form from the school office that is to be filled out by your family<br \/>\nphysician prior to medications being dropped off at school or administered by staff.<br \/>\n3) Return the completed medical form to the school along with the medication in a clearly<br \/>\nmarked container (preferably the container directly from the pharmacy). Please do not send<br \/>\nmedications with your child.<br \/>\n4) Bring in any refills that may be required. Please do not send refills with your child.<br \/>\n5) All medications and physician forms must be updated yearly. Please plan to send all<br \/>\nupdated information and medications prior to school starting each fall.<br \/>\n6) Inhalers may be kept in your child\u2019s backpack for quick access however we also ask that a<br \/>\nsecond inhaler be left at the school office as a backup.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Self-administered Medication School Procedures:<\/strong><br \/>\nIf your child requires medication such as inhalers, pain relief medications (Advil, Tylenol, Midol),<br \/>\ncough syrup and\/or cough drops, or any other medications, kindly follow the steps below:<br \/>\n1) Ensure the medication is for 1 day only. Please do not send a bottle of Advil, Tylenol, etc.<br \/>\n2) Email your child\u2019s teacher and school principal to inform them your child will be bringing<br \/>\nmedication to school.
