Adele and Laine, our wonderful nursing students that came to work with us from January-March, have created a series of monthly themed health packets. This month, we will learn about harm reduction.
May – Harm Reduction
What is harm reduction? Harm reduction is an important topic to understand and practice in your own life to stay healthy! Harm reduction is policies, programs, actions, or services that are put in place to reduce the amount of harm something does without eliminating it. For example, wearing seatbelts while driving reduces the amount of harm you could get when getting into a car accident without making people stop driving cars. Another example is using a condom to reduce likelihood of sexually transmitted diseases while being sexually active without making people choose abstinence.
