Please join us tonight:
The Staff of École Gravelbourg School have planned a fun and informative evening for you on Wednesday, November 9.
Starting at 6:30 pm parents and students are encouraged to attend a Scavenger Hunt/Meet-the-Teacher/Explore ÉGS night. All parents and students will enter through the main entrance, remove their outside shoes and then students will pick up a scavenger hunt sheet from the table outside the main entrance. This sheet will have a picture of an object from each room and you and your child must match that item to a room and staff member. There is also a fun fact about each staff member. This will require that you walk around the building stopping in each room to try to find the item and to match the fun fact with the staff member present. This will allow you to meet each staff member, have a brief conversation and see the entire building with your child acting as your tour guide. This event will end at 7:15 pm.
At that time we encourage parents to stay for presentation from our area Superintendent, Mr. Darren Tenycke, on Outcome Based Reporting in the atrium. Mr. Teneycke was instrumental in piloting this type of reporting in his previous school division and brings a wealth of knowledge about this process that he can share with parents to help them better understand this change in your child’s report card. This is the type of reporting that will be on the new report cards. It involves teachers evaluating a student’s progress based on a set of curricular outcomes and then reporting that to you on a report card. This is how the Grade 1 to 8 English students will have their progress reported starting this year. All Grade 1 to 8 French immersion students will begin this process next year. If you stay for this event your child can stay and participate in some activities led by the School Community Council in the gymnasium. This presentation will run from 7:15 pm to 8:00 pm.
