On June 21, National Aboriginal Day, a new tradition was started at Ecole Gravelbourg School.
In Aboriginal culture, a star blanket is a cherished gift that symbolizes respect and honor. It is given to community members who are revered.
The staff and students of EGS will be presenting a blanket annually. This year, the first one was given to Nicole Fister. She is a Metis elder, and has been a source of inspiration and guidance to many. The blanket was personalized for her and draped around her shoulders to show that she is loved and respected.
